Mission Statement

Our mission here at Joey's Toy Box is to provide support for the Child Life programs at the Aflac Children's Cancer Centers and the Children's Healthcare Of Atlanta. We donate directly to these programs located at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital Atlanta, Egleston Children's Hospital Atlanta, and Hughes Spalding Children's Hospital Atlanta. The Child Life programs that we support help children get through their medical treatments and procedures, which are often extremely intense for the kids. The medical procedures that these brave kids endure--sometimes on a daily basis--include chemotherapy, radiation, blood transfusions, and various other surgical procedures. The child life specialists do a wonderful job of getting these amazing kids through their procedures. They walk the kids through medical procedures by utilizing puppets to show the child what he/she can expect to happen during a procedure. They provide board games, video games, movies, crayons, coloring books, reading books, puzzles, etc. for the kids while they are receiving chemotherapy or blood transfusions. If a child has had a particularly rough experience, he/she can even go to the toy closet and pick out a special toy or stuffed animal to take home. However, the Child Life Programs do have a limited budget and rely mainly on donations the they receive during the holidays. This is where Joey wanted to step in. Being a lifelong cancer patient himself, he knew how important the toys were during his incredibly harsh treatments. He definitely did not want the cancer centers and hospitals to ever run out of toys for the other kids.
